To password your servers for clan matches etc you need to switch to an unranked profile.
* Punkbuster can no longer be enabled / disabled on the fly. This does have a knock on effect to people joining servers as the client displays this wrong in the server browsed, this should be fixed this week with a client update.
* Server settings are broken by vars.friendlyFire <true|false> in Startup.txt. The current workaround is to ensure vars.friendlyFire is at the bottom of your Startup.txt

It should also be mentioned that R9 is much more stable than R8 so progress is being made :)

Game News Battlefield Bad Company 2 - Updated to R9
Apr 08 2010 16:12:55 by Killing
All Bad Company 2 servers have been updated to version R9 this build includes a number of crash fixes, so we hope all servers will be even more stable now.

The full change list is:-

* admin.say command implemented
o - the output currently looks a bit funky on the game client, like so: Player: [Server]: <text> but with the next game client it will look like: Server: <text>
* admin.yell to squad has changed (you need to specify both team and squad)
* squad numbering has changed - the "no squad" squad has ID 0, and real squads are 1 and up.
* Autobalance improved, it shuffles people both during and between rounds now, and does a better job. Note: There is currently no way to turn it off
* mapList* commands reworked
* banList* commands reworked
* listPlayers command added
* admin.listPlayers command reworked (GUID, kills, deaths, ping and score added)
* Players have non-PB GUIDs now (these are distinct from PB GUIDs)
* onChat event reworked
o now it specifies target player subset as well
o shows text before profanity filtering
o client-originated chat messages starting with "/" make it to the server, and broadcast via onChat, but are not broadcast to other game clients
o use "/!<command>" if you want to be able to send commands to your homemade rcon tools without showing the commands to other players
* player.onAuthenticated added (it's triggered when a player receives GUID)
* player.onSquadChange, player.onTeamChange implemented
* Couple of crash fixes
* Support for server-side "region" setting (not yet used by the game client)
* Ranked ON forces game-password OFF
* Ranked and PunkBuster settings can only be changed during server startup
* A server is marked as "hardcore" either when Friendly Fire is enabled, or when all the typical hardcore settings (hardcore killcam minimap etc) have been flipped
* exposed number of rounds per maps in maplist.txt, and via the remote admin commands</command></text></text></true|false>

Battlefield Bad Company 2 - Weapons characteristics

Listen up soldiers! We now have a very useful charts of all weapons characteristics! So make sure you check them out right now!

Killing tools

The basics of any of the primary weapons are:
Damage
Damage starts high up close, drops over distance, and continues at a lower damage amount.

Rate of Fire
"Rate" is measured in Rounds Per Minute.
"Time" is the delay between each shot.

Reload  Time
Reloading is made of Time and Threshold (or "Add").
"Time" is the time in seconds for the weapon to finish the reload animation and be ready to fire.
"Add" is the point in time during the reload when the ammo counter changes.

The Pump Action shotguns reload one round at a time.
The first shell takes longer to reload than all shells after it.
After being loaded, the shotgun will play a "post reload" animation that will ready it for shooting.
For those three shotguns, the chart reads "First", "Next" and "Ready".

The player can cancel the reload by switching weapons (the fastest method).
Doing so after the Add Time or during Ready Time will allow the player to reload and get the weapon ready to fire more quickly.

Spread,  Spray and Recoil
There are MANY variables related to a weapon's accuracy and inaccuracy.
To make it as simple as possible, a bigger number = worse accuracy, more recoil.

The two in Spread are the minimum hip spread when standing still and moving.
Pistols and a few others have "Zoom" - spread other than perfect 0.0 - which is the spread when sighted and standing still.
When sighted and moving, most weapons have a spread of 1.0 or less. LMGs have a spread of 2.0.
The two in Spray are spread added to the weapon with each shot from the hip and sighted.
The two in Recoil are the weapon's sights jumping around with each shot when sighted.

"Kick" is the angle increase with each shot.
Higher "Amp" means a stronger kick based on the "Kick" number.
I don't know exactly how they equate, but from testing, I (currently) guess that the two are simply multiplied together.
Example being the M9 (0.6 and 7.0) and the  MP-412 (3.5 and 7.0).
They have the same kick value, but the REX has six times the Amp, and their difference in recoil is clear.

Ammo  is self-explanatory.
Bullets in your magazine and the damage multiplier for headshots.

Soldier health is 100.
Ceramic Body  Armor is 125.
Six seconds after taking damage, the player will recover three health per second.

In "Hardcore" players have 50 health and do not recover on their own.
Body Armor is only 62.5.

A brief explanation for a few other numbers...
There are variables for each posture and again for each posture when sighted.
A "Min" for when the player is not firing his weapon and a "Max" for the highest spread a weapon can have from firing.

When not firing the weapon, weapons universally recover 3.0 degrees of spread per second.
Nearly all weapons have a 5.0 "Max" spread in any posture. Pistols have a Max of 3.0 (2.0 zoomed) and Sniper rifles have 7.0.

From the hip, crouching has no effect for any weapons except for LMGs in which hip spread barely improves.
Crouching while sighted, almost every weapon subtracts 0.05 from its Amp.

Boom stuff

Explosive weapons behave quite differently between themselves.

Blast Damage is a single damage number (bottom number) that continues for a short distance (Red number).
After that, damage linearly drops to zero by it's maximum range (top number).
The Red Number, I'm not 100% certain that is how it is meant to be.

Against Armored Vehicles, explosive damage is modified every which way.
Against Tanks and APCs, the listed number is the damage done to their 1250 health.
The explosive icon means the vehicle takes it as explosive damage, the side hit does not matter.
The bullet icon means the vehicle takes it as projectile damage and hitting it in the rear or side will do extra damage based on the Vehicle Chart.
The Anti-Tank mine is sometimes capable of destroying tanks with only one mine, but it is not consistent.
The underside of vehicles seems extra vulnerable to damage.
Against lighter vehicles, most of these explosives will take them out in one hit.

Speed is simple - higher number, faster it goes.
Note that the AT4 starts off slow, but the guided engine can speed it up to 50 after a few seconds.
Also Note that the RPG-7 can speed up a bit if being guided by a Tracer Dart.

Detonation is a mix of things.
The time it takes to throw a grenade after pressing the button and the time it takes to explode.
The 40mm grenade takes 0.2 seconds before it will detonate, hitting something at less than about 10m will make it a dud.
A direct hit with the 40mm will still hit and kill an enemy.
The Tracer Dart lasts for 45 seconds after sticking to something.

Reload is the same as the Weapon Chart with the time it takes to reload and the time the ammo counter changes.
Also included is the time it takes to get one explosive of that type from the Assault's Ammo Box.

Driving, flying, swimming, stationary shooting stuff

Vehicles are very uniform, each vehicle has many similar things to another of the same type.

All vehicles can generally be taken out with a single infantry rocket, but Tanks and APCs take extra damage from the side and rear.
To minimize damage to those weak sides, armored vehicles can angle themselves to decrease damage.
And yes, the BMD-3 takes extra damage to the front.

There are other multipliers in relation to vehicle weapons that alter the damage they do to one another.
A tank reads 1000 combined direct and blast damage, and while it will do that amount of damage to a HMMWV or a helicopter, the effect against other tanks is different.

There are several multipliers related to the impact and blast damage of the Tank Shell related specifically to the material of armored vehicles.
Instead of listing those, this is the easiest explanation - Tank Cannon damage against another Tank or armored vehicle is approximately 350.

Stuff which make our life easier

While just about anything else on there should be simple enough, a slightly more detailed description of the Power Tool and the way it repairs:

The Power Tool fires at a rate of fire of 900 RPM. That's a "shot" every 0.066 seconds.
With each "shot", it gains 0.041 heat. Constantly fighting against that heat is a cooldown of 0.5.
The two combined with the rate of fire allows the Power Tool to fire 125 times over the course of 8.3 seconds.

It repairs 5 points of damage with each shot.
With the 0.3 second delay before the tool starts up, that's 625 vehicle health repaired over 8.6 seconds.
Holding the trigger for 8.6 seconds will cause the tool to overheat.
For reference, All armored ground vehicles have 1250 health.

Also, the Repair Tool delivers 15 damage against enemies and enemy vehicles per "shot".

Bullets

On the physics of Bullet Drop, there are basically two types of bullets:
The standard for all weapons from pistols to the weaker Recon Rifles. The effects of gravity do not appear to happen until several hundred meters away.
Sniper Bullets are affected by fake gravity much more swiftly. For example, the M24's round drops halfway down to its first mil-dot by 100m.

The feature of HMG_Bullet (used by the M95) is that it can damage lightly armored vehicles such as Jeeps and Helicopters.

All bullets travel at the same arbitrary speed of "600" (though their tracers are made intentionally slower than the actual projectile).

Spotting

Like the repair tool, uses "overheat" to prevent excessive Socialize use.
The player is capable of about five Socialize button presses in rapid succession before overheating and being inoperable for five seconds.
With the cooldown, the fastest continuous rate that a player can spot without overheating is once every two seconds.

Games in April

Here is a list of games which suppose to come out this month. Frankly I didn't find any descent game which will come out this month. There is one "maybe" on new Splinter Cell, but frankly you better watch new episode or season of 24 instead of buying this game. Why? Mostly because Valve told us that it'll be released in the end of March and now is... the end of March. But Valve uses their own calendar and time so this weekend plus something like 4-5 days and, unfortunately (for some crazy guy who like the idea of death of someone from original survivors) we have next weekend. We're proudly presenting this article with methods to increase FPS which are working.

First of all lets start from telling you PC specifications:

4 GB RAM;

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5600+ 2.90 GHz;

GeForce 9800 GT 512  MB (resolution is 1280x1024, yeah, I have poor monitor);

Windows 7 Home Basic x64 (and let me tell you - this OS is 100% legal and we suggest you to do the same thing!.

I doubt any other info will help you that much. Lets start from some general info about increasing FPS in games. Those methods can be applied to practically every game out there. Here they are:

Lower shadows quality or disable it completely;

Disable bloom and HDR;

Lower or disable anti-aliasing;

DisableVSync;

Lower particles settings;

Reboot PC (don't make big eyes here, this can really help!);

That's about it with general advices. Now lets talk more specific for our favorite game. From specifications list you can see that we used NVidia video card, therefore we can't say anything about ATI family. However if there are any ATI users in our community - feel free to add your info into comments section of this article.

According to official forum there are lots of ways to increase FPS. For example you can go to - Documents -> BFBC2 and open up "settings. Find "renderaheadlimit" parameter. By default it is suppose to be 2, you can change it to 0. That may give you some increase, but frankly it's pretty small. Therefore you can use this method only if you're very close to your perfect FPS but still not there.

The following method was evolved from one of the general. You can set Horizontal Based Ambient Occlusion (HSAO) to false in the ini file or with the help of in-game interface. This HSAO is advanced shadows drawing. Obviously disabling that will give you some descent FPS improvement.

and

Lowering textures quality will help you but frankly we advice you to avoid that. You see, this game has awesome visuals! Graphic is really impressive! So you can get big FPS improvement by lowering texture quality but you stuck with poor visuals which may kill you interest to this game pretty fast. So use this method on your own risk!

In the ini file find parameter called "Undergrowth" setting that on medium or low will REALLY help you. Right now there are a lot of gras in this awesome game and this parameter is responsible for quality of that. Unfortunately situation with this is close to the method above so hear the same warning!

Well, frankly speaking that's about it. Check all settings listed above and get as much FPS as possible! We'll see you on the battlefield!

Left 4 Dead 2 The Passing update

Well guys, that's 100% official now - only 3 of 4 awesome survivors will come back. One of them is going to die for sure. If you remember interview on GT TV then you can remove from dead list Zoey and Francis, 'cause Ellis can... I can't believe I'm saying this... Ellis can fall in love with Zoey... could someone deliver a bullet to his head? Or just give me the gun! Francis may have very "friendly" conversations with Nick since they both are shady. Plus to all of this Valve promised to add modeS. Not just one. Once again - no additional info on that flank. They also noticed "A Wicked Witch Bride!". I'm honestly have no idea what the heck is that...

Here is the link to official blog entry:
http://www.l4d.com/blog/post.php?id=3634

I still can't believe that they decided to kill someone from perfect 4... that feels so wrong! Or Battlefield Bad Company 2 - strategy for medics

Listen up people! Now we're going to talk about really important things! No more baby talk! You're a darn medic now! And it's up to you to get your squad safely to the end of this bloody war!

Lets be clear on couple things. First of all - our instructions are mainly pointed on those who have zero experience fighting enemy. They never heard about 1942, 1943 or any other Battlefield game. Second - if you're think you're smart - think again and check out this briefing!

Lets start. So you decided to be a medic. That's a very important profession on the battlefield. We already told you about game modes of this Bad Company 2 game so you have some ideas about ticket system. You should know that if you revive fallen teammate then it'll increase amount of tickets of your team by one. Which is VERY important especially in the end of the battle. If you don't believe me now - just trust me on this.

Lets start from reviewing medic's weapons. This is the only class who have only 2 normal weapons. They are machine guns and pistols. Well, when you increase your rank you'll get some other weapons, e.g. shotguns. For medic they could be useful only if you're in Squad Rush or Squad Deathmatch. I don't see any point in that type of weapons in massive modes. But that's me, you can try them if you like. My task here is to show you directions. What you'll do with them is up to you (yeah, I love Mass Effect 2). Lets get back to weapons review. Second weapon is a pistol. Frankly speaking this gun is a little bit pointless to medic. If you were so smart and wasted the whole magazine of light machine gun (which is somewhere around 100 rounds) then most probably you'll die. That's a fact. Therefore use your ammo wisely! Do not go at rage and shoot everything in the air! Now lets talk about real deal here - light machine guns! Those babies are very good in this game! Practically the whole time you'll be in something what I can describe like "Hell" - explosions, fire, smokes, screaming, bullets EVERYWHERE, houses collapsing! You'll need a weapon which can kill as much people as possible without reloading. This heavy things are the best for this task. However first 2 or 3 representatives of this weapon class are garbage. Like literally. I mean I do like Russian weaponry but that first gun... I was at rage with that more then with everything in the whole game! However if you manage to catch up with game's ballistic system (which is mostly everything-is-dropping-down type) you can get some nice results, and instead of full auto fire mode use bursts. 2-3 rounds in one time. That'll help with accuracy. My favorite combination for now is M60 + Red Dot.

Now lets talk about things which make medic that much valuable for his squad and the whole team in general. Those are med kit and defibrillator. Keep in mind that if you throw a med kit near an injured teammate he'll be healed way faster then if you just have that kit in your hands. In addition - med kit is regenerating. That means when you throw one kit just wait for a couple of seconds and you'll get another ready to go. However if you throw this new med kit last one will disappear, but if you die and leave kit on the ground it'll stay there. The purpose of defibrillator is obvious. You can revive fallen teammates with this. I described pros of this action in the beginning of this strategy guide, so lets not repeat ourselves. Although expect pretty awesome results if you use defibrillator unit on enemies head.

So we reviewed medic's warger That's good, but I'm sure you'd like some additional info about this great class. As I said before - medic is suppose to heal and revive people. Therefore do NOT go on a frontier. Let assaulter do his job. You just get med kit in the right time in the right place. If you see a dead team mate which you still can revive - be careful. There is a probability that he was shot by a sniper. That means you may be next. Use sprint as much as possible and listen to surroundings. You can hear sniper fire on you. If that's happening - start running in zigzag style. That helps a lot! I managed to evade death more then just once with that move. Use your common sense. Thanks to pretty realistic visuals of this game you can be close to invisible in the dark areas, like in bushes, behind tree or something like that. Use that as a cover, wait for a more or less clear run and get to fallen team mate or to a pin down squad in order to help them with a med kit.

I think that's it for this strategy guide. Use your gun wisely, shoot in bursts, revive and heal teammates as much as possible, try to stay out of frontier and you'll be fine with lots of experience points in your packet.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://theinfectedsurvivors.blogspot.com/2010/03/i-need-medic-here-or-battlefield-bad.html' title='I need a medic here!! Today I'm going to tell you what to do on the battlefield and how to be effective in general! So put your guns away and listen very carefully! Because this may greatly help your team and if you'll be very lucky - it'll help you too!

I have a report from a new soldier in our division right here. It says that he didn't know what to do when he was dropped on the battlefield. That is completely unacceptable! I will personally punish his superiors! And the only punishment for such a serious crime in the time of war is death! OK. Enough of this rage. Lets start our today briefing.

First of all lets talk about what's happening when you just get inside a war zone. I call this - main battlefield menu. This screen consist of 3 parts. They are:

Battlefield map

Squad brief information

Your current wargear selection

Lets talk about each of those and start from battlefield map. This game has a funny color scheme. Everyone who's in your army but not your squad mates are marked blue (well, frankly that's more aqua color for me, but if people want to call it blue, then lets call it blue). Be advised - shooting those guys may result in a big experience reduction. I'm not talking about all crazy people who will want to kill their killer. So it's better not to shoot your own people.

Now lets see on people who are marked green. Those are your squad mates.Well, usually you have to trust them with your own life so make sure you are in the right squad which can actually cover your back, heal you or protect you from enemy tank with one nicely placed rocket. Keep in mind that you can and HAVE TO spawn on your squad mates. To do so simply click on a name of a squad mate and wait for respawn. Bad thing is that if he'll die - you're gonna pick another squad mate to spawn on.

There are a lot of available squad names out there. You can either join of existing squads by pressing "Join" button or create your own. That lock button will filter all unnecessary people. You'll either approve their joining or say "bb" to them.

In the wargear selection menu you can choose your class for this game. Keep in mind that if you're a fresh meat in this god forsaken war then you'll be given only main weapon, pistol, one grenade, one knife and one additional piece of wargear which can be C4, RPG, ammo box or maybe med kit. When you'll get higher rank in our army, then we can give you more advanced guns and toys.

Frankly speaking army doesn't like people who jump from one profession to another on the fly. Mainly because you are good at one class in the game. So changing it will not do any good. Perfect army suppose to have balanced squads. For example, squad Alpha can be mainly attacking force therefore it will consist from 3 assaulter and one medic; squad bravo - engineering squad therefore 3 engineers and 1 medic. I also want that all you of notice that I put medic in each squad on purpose. That's because when you play in Conquest or Rush your respawn tickets decrease with your death, but! But if medic revive his teammate then that ticket is back. Which is extremely helpful in the finale of Rush when you don't have luxury of dying.

So, we covered this main battlefield menu. Lets talk about UI which you can see directly in action. Map to your left is an extremely useful thing! But that's basically the same map from main battlefield menu so we'll not talk about it anymore. Actually one more thing. But it's extremely important! When you seen an enemy - press social button (by default it's Q). With this you can spot enemy and it'll be marked by a red triangle which is extremely helpful! Plus if that sucker will be shot while being spotted - you get a bonus!

Do you see that blue square above that flag? If the color of that is blue - you're safe. That means that flag is controlled by your team. If that square is blinking - get your ass to that position and kill all enemy nearby! Because blinking means enemy is trying to conquer that flag. Since you're a smart soldier I'm not going to tell you obvious things like that you have to conquer every flag which doesn't have blue square above it. That is all up to you to figure that out.

Now couple of words about Rush mode UI. It's kinda the same. Only if you're attacking then your objectives marked by a red square. When you armed it, then square start his blink sequence. You have to make sure that enemy don't disarm that. If you're defending M-COM station then it's marked by a blue square. Defend that, kill everything that is not your army and you'll be fine.

I hope that our todays briefing will help you in a future and that now you know where to go and what to destroy or conquers. Class dismissed.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://theinfectedsurvivors.blogspot.com/2010/03/bad-company-2-what-hell-or-what-to-do_23.html' title='Bad Company 2. What the hell?! Or what to do if you have no idea what to do. (part 1)

We are gathered here today to figure out basics of Battlefield: Bad Company 2. This material will be useful for those of you who didn't hear anything about battlefield games up until this awesomely awesome game. Here are some tips about game mods.

Lets start from 2 most popular modes in the whole Battlefield series. Those are Conquest and Rush.

Conquest is a real veteran in the battlefield series. It was there from the very first Battlefield 1942 game. The idea of this mode is simple. Each team gets some amount of tickets (that is what allow you to spawn; when you spawn - that's minus 1 ticket). When one team gets one ore more flags on the map then enemies tickets begin to decrease automatically. The more flags you get the faster they decrease. Fortunately that's not the only one usefulness of the flags. When you get it then your team can spawn on its position and several vehicles will spawn in the are. Well, that's about it for Conquest mode.

Lets talk about Rush now. This baby was introduced in Bad Company 1 game. So perhaps PC audience doesn't know much about it. Idea is simple. The whole map divides into 3 or more parts with 2 objectives in the area. Usually you have access to only one part and until you destroy 2 objectives in it you can't move forward. Those mystery objectives are 2 M-COMs stations. There are 3 ways to destroy it:

Run to it, hold "use" button and arm charges in it. Then wait for some time and enjoy small explosion.

Bring down the whole building on it! Yeah. Because of pretty damn good destruction system in Bad Company series you can collapse practically every building on the map. That means that M-COM station will be 100% destroyed without any timing.

In my opinion method #3 goes in a very good combination with #1 and here is why. If you play as a sniper or engineer you can get C4 or land mines. The pretty of mines is that they will not disappear even if you die. So all you have to do is put land mines or C4 near that M-COM station and throw a grenade / detonate C4. Objective complete, move to another one.

However there is one very important detail about this mode. If you play defense - you have unlimited respawns. That doesn't apply to attackers. They have something around 100 spawn tickets. So you'll be very useful if you prefer to play as a medic and you're really good at it.

This 2 modes are most popular modes in Bad Company 2. At least for now. But they are not the only 2 modes in the whole game. We have 2 more. Which are Squad Rush and Squad Deathmatch. Gameplay mechanics of these 2 are pretty simple. Squad Rush has the same rules as its big brother but with only 2 squads. One - attackers, another one - defenders. Plus respawn time is a little bit bigger then in normal Rush. In Squad Deathmatch you can join one of several squads and just destroy filthy enemy. While you're doing so you shouldn't forget about one vehicle which spanws somewhere in the middle of the map.

Well, I guess that's it for this article. If you have something to say regarding this article, please do so in the comments section bellow. Peace / war, out.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://theinfectedsurvivors.blogspot.com/2010/03/bad-company-2-what-hell-or-what-to-do.html' title='Bad Company 2. Keep in mind, that we'll pick only really interesting games in which we'll play or already playing. I mean who want to read about some crappy piece of software? Right?

From that serious section we're going to this one. It called Fun Lust. The idea of this one is to show you some easter eggs, maybe show funny videos or just tell you a funny story. This section will have lots of multimedia. Trust me on this.

Now we're in front of section called Core Protection. FPS, FPS and again FPS! In this section you'll get tips regarding FPS improvements in your favorite games. We will check all those tips on our versions first and only then they will be posted! Keep that in mind.

I bet you're thinking that I'm done with sections? Right? Nope. Here is another one! Chaotic News. We can't promise news every day, but we'll post only interesting news here. Here is an example - someone in Left 4 Dead universe will die in the upcoming DLC "The Passing" (one bright guy in our ranks think that since this DLC will not have playable Zoey then this DLC doesn't worth even downloading for free!). That tragic death can be relived in the future DLC for Left 4 Dead 1 which will be available after The Passing.

And last but defiantly not least - Infected Strategy. In here you can read our tips about how to survive in game for as long as possible. Besides that we'll post some guides for those of you who don't have any idea what to do in a game.

Well, I think that's it. For now! So enjoy reading our articles! Don't forget to comment and come back here later!
