Battlefield Bad Company 2 - Increasing FPS

Well guys, I think it's time. I think it's time to speak loud and clear about this problem! Just remember how many times you were killed only because your PC freeze for a second or so! That's really annoying isn't it? If you tired of that problem, if you want to find a solution, the only solution which will REALLY help you - then you're in the right place! We're proudly presenting this article with methods to increase FPS which are working.

First of all lets start from telling you PC specifications:
  • 4 GB RAM;
  • AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5600+ 2.90 GHz;
  • GeForce 9800 GT 512  MB (resolution is 1280x1024, yeah, I have poor monitor);
  • Windows 7 Home Basic x64 (and let me tell you - this OS is 100% legal and we suggest you to do the same thing!.
I doubt any other info will help you that much. Lets start from some general info about increasing FPS in games. Those methods can be applied to practically every game out there. Here they are:
  • Lower shadows quality or disable it completely;
  • Disable bloom and HDR;
  • Lower or disable anti-aliasing;
  • DisableVSync;
  • Lower particles settings;
  • Reboot PC (don't make big eyes here, this can really help!);
That's about it with general advices. Now lets talk more specific for our favorite game. From specifications list you can see that we used NVidia video card, therefore we can't say anything about ATI family. However if there are any ATI users in our community - feel free to add your info into comments section of this article.

According to official forum there are lots of ways to increase FPS. For example you can go to - Documents -> BFBC2 and open up "settings. Find "renderaheadlimit" parameter. By default it is suppose to be 2, you can change it to 0. That may give you some increase, but frankly it's pretty small. Therefore you can use this method only if you're very close to your perfect FPS but still not there.

The following method was evolved from one of the general. You can set Horizontal Based Ambient Occlusion (HSAO) to false in the ini file or with the help of in-game interface. This HSAO is advanced shadows drawing. Obviously disabling that will give you some descent FPS improvement.

Lowering textures quality will help you but frankly we advice you to avoid that. You see, this game has awesome visuals! Graphic is really impressive! So you can get big FPS improvement by lowering texture quality but you stuck with poor visuals which may kill you interest to this game pretty fast. So use this method on your own risk!

In the ini file find parameter called "Undergrowth" setting that on medium or low will REALLY help you. Right now there are a lot of gras in this awesome game and this parameter is responsible for quality of that. Unfortunately situation with this is close to the method above so hear the same warning!

Well, frankly speaking that's about it. Check all settings listed above and get as much FPS as possible! We'll see you on the battlefield!
